The Fair in
Parque del Este

On coming out of the Metro station by the same name, you will find one of the most important parks in Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela: Parque del Este. On account of the convenience of its multiple amenities, beauty of its surroundings and the security it can offer its visitors, the park has been selected as the site for The International Book Fair Venezuela 2005.

Parque del Este (East Park) was first opened in January 1961, on an extension of land that had formerly been a coffee and sugar cane plantation, called San José. A team of architects and botanists, headed by the Brazilian, Roberto Burle Marx, were put in charge of the project.

Its location in Caracas and the nearness to the Metro station (Parque del Este), in addition to easy access by car from the avenida Francisco de Miranda (avenue) and the autopista Francisco Fajardo (highway), as well as two spacious areas for parking, make the park an ideal site to get to, to make your purchases or to take part in the cultural and professional activities in The International Book Fair Venezuela 2005.

Parque del Este comprises an area of about 82 hectares, in total. These dimensions make it the second largest park in Caracas, only after the Mount Avila National Park. Added to this, the park has the advantage of being a fenced off, secure area, which is well-lit and amply provided for with service facilities for visitors. The park also offers, natural green areas, botanical displays and fauna, cultural and recreational spaces besides areas for sport.
