CARLOS NOGUERA

He is a poet, short-story writer, and novelist. He is also a psychologist graduate from the Central University of Venezuela (Universidad Central de Venezuela, UCV). Published works: Laberintos [Labyrinths] (1965), Eros y Palas [Eros and Palas] (1967), Historias de la Calle Lincoln [Lincoln Street's Stories] (1971), Inventando los días [Inventing Days] (1979), Dos Libros [Two Books] (1995), Juegos bajo la Luna [Playing Under the Moon] (1994), La flor escrita [The Written Flower] (2003), Los cristales de la noche [Night´s Crystals] (2005). At present he writes his sixth novel: Los años locos [The Crazy Years] and arranges for the publication of El tambor de pecho [The Chest Drum] a book of essays. As a psychologist, he has published the book El adolescente caraqueño [The ‘caraqueño' Adolescent] (1989). Some of his books were translated into English, French, and Serbo-Croat.

His awarded prizes include: First Prize in the 1965 University Poetry Contest, UCV; Second Prize in the 1966 Poetry Contest, Universidad del Zulia (Zulia University); First Prize in the 1969 El Nacional Short-Story Contest; 1971 Monte Ávila Editores International Novel Prize; 1977 Biennial Novel Prize ‘Guillermo Meneses', UCV; 1993 Consejo Nacional de la Cultura (CONAC) [National Council of Culture] Literature Prize in Narrative; 1993 2 nd Biennial Literature ‘Mariano Picón Salas' Prize; 1995 CONAC Narrative Prize, 1995 Municipal Literature Prize; Finalist in the 1995 ‘Rómulo Gallegos' Prize and Honorable Mention in 1998 Pegassus Prize. Also, he was paid homage during the 2003 10 th International Book Fair held in Caracas . He is currently president of Monte Ávila Editores Latinoamericana publishing house.
